Tachycineta bicolor
Small bird with a small bill. Adult plumage is iridescent blue on back continuing with a hood of blue. Charcoal to black feather tips and forked tail. White underside extends to mid face.
Old abandoned building and fence, lagoon and bay.
This beautiful small bird makes a wonderful watery gurgle sound when it calls. It is a very fast low flying bird. I have to drive slow and be watchful when the Swallows leave the fence line to cross the road, due to their fast low flight. One of my favorite times to observe Swallows is during misty or light rainy days. It is then over the lagoon the Swallows fly so low over the water they look as if they are ice skating. They do marvelous stunts in pairs.
