Angle-winged Emerald Moth

Chloropteryx tepperaria

Description:

Emerald Moth, green in color with angled wings containing fringed borders. Forewing length: ♂ 9-10.5 mm, ♀ 9.5-12 mm.

Habitat:

Range: New Jersey to Florida and west to Texas, Oklahoma. This one was attracted to a porch light adjacent to a southern deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.

Notes:

Per BAMONA, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC. Hodges#7075. Host plants include Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum), Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) and Winged Sumac (Rhus copallina).
