Description:

Large salamander; mostly gray with large conspicuous oval parotoid glands behind the eyes and on the tail ridge.

Breeds in mostly perennial ponds. This one was about 600 feet from one such pond. It had wandered into my garage. Surrounding habitat is a mosaic of fields, pasture, and variously-aged stands of Douglas-fir.
