Cypress Clubtail

Gomphus minutus

Description:

Small brown/black and yellow clubtail. Two mid-dorsal, two shoulder and two unfused lateral thoracic stripes. The yellow markings on S7 usually cover the entire side of the segment unlike the similar Lancet Clubtail where the yellow covers only part of the segment. The dorsal markings on the abdomen continue on all segments and are not wider on S9 than on the other segments (on Lancet the yellow is much wider on that segment).

Habitat:

Found along the side of a dirt track in the grasses of the dry roadside ditches near the river, several creeks and swampy areas.

Notes:

Flies early in the year and far more common south of the fall line than in the north.
