Ribbed Case Moth

Hyalarcta nigrescens

Description:

A ridged cocoon made of silk approximately 7cm long. Twisted at one end while the other end would've been the opening for the caterpillar.

Habitat:

Found on alpine grassland at Skull-bone Plains. It may have come from eucalypt trees nearby.

Notes:

There is a hole torn near the base. This could be where the male moth emerged or the newly hatched babies.
