Great Purple Hairstreak

Atlides halesus

Description:

Shiny gray/black with bright orange spots along the body on the wing edges and a bright, neon-iridescent streak where the hind wing and forwing overlap. There are tails on the lower trailing edge of the hindwing. This was a very fresh individual

Habitat:

Found in mixed Pine/hardwoods in sandhills along the edges of a lowland hardwood. The host plant, Mistletoe, was in some of the nearby oaks.
