Wasp Moth

Description:

Erebidae; Arctiinae; Syntomini sp. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syntomini, there are 34 Genera of Wasp Moths in the Syntomini. I have taken many pictures of these moths over the years and whilst there are similarities, there are also innumerable differences. So sorting them out is really a job for a specialist. Those shown here have yellow/orange abdomens with black bands. The antennae have white tips. and the wings are black with translucent patches (not completely transparent - there is a touch of yellow/orange)

Habitat:

These Syntomini spp. were spotted on Tropical White Weed (Ageratum sp.) along the edge of a rice field. This Ageratum sp. appears to attract many moth and butterfly species (especially Hesperiidae) when it is in flower at the peak of the dry season here in our area. So if I feel I want to get some snapshots of moths or butterflies I head for a patch of Tropical White Weed.
