Automeris io
Family: Saturniidae, Subfamily: Hemileucinae (Buck Moths) Male. Sexually dimorphic. Male is largely yellow with reddish streaks and design.Feathery antennae. Large eye spots, but did not see them on this one. Hosts: Deciduous trees, shrubs and plants.
Woodlands. Saw flying from the woods and it landed in an evergreen tree in the yard.
2nd male Io Moth found at light source. I barely recognized it as an Io Moth at first because it was very small (no greater than 50 mm wingspan) and in rough shape, but what a cutie. After I got it to go on my finger, I tried to gently open up wings to see eye spots, but it flew away.
