Japanese Honeysuckle

Lonicera japonica

Description:

Climbing vine that produces fragrant, tubular white flowers. Flowers turn yellow with age. Stems are reddish and hairy. Leaves are ovate and untoothed. Introduced as a cultivated plant but has escaped and become naturalized in many areas. Invasive.

Habitat:

Cedar Creek County Park, New York. Growing in a little used area of the park.

Notes:

Flowers are edible and contain sweet nectar that can be sucked out of the base of the corolla. Leaves are edible when cooked. Highly valued in traditional Chinese Medicine (as per Wikipedia).
