Black Blister Beetle

Epicauta pennsylvanica

Description:

All black, beetle-like insect on my roses. About 2 cm long, including antennae.

Habitat:

Rose garden at Albion Under the Trees, Pacific Northwest temperate rainforest.

Notes:

Just one individual. Not an infestation. Garden pest?

It seems like these beetles are after nectar? hmmm will have to find out more about them.

I don't use any sprays in my rose garden, so I get quite a few interesting insects there. Any help on this one?
