House-sparrow with dragonfly

Passer domesticus

Description:

Small bird. So much a part of my childhood. Rather less common now. Shades of brown and black. Finch-like beak. A timid bird...I was a bit taken aback to see it with a dragonfly in its beak. I usually see it eat grain or crumbs. This one is a female...maybe she has chicks. The colours of the male are darker and it has a prominent black bib.

Habitat:

On the electric line just beyond my rooftop terrace. I get avian visitors that drop in for water, nesting material (sometimes they purloin!) and fruits and crumbs.

Notes:

Every year March 20 is observed as World Sparrow Day to raise awareness about the bird. This is in advance celebration.
