Shag Carpet Tooth Fungus

Sarcodon spp.?

Description:

This amazing small mushroom has super shaggy teeth that hang from the cap. Still searching for a positive id, though believe to be in the Sarcodon genus. Cap; 2 inches, brownish black. Stipe, 1.5-2 inches, brownish black. Teeth hanging like shag carpet, brownish black to grey.

Habitat:

Most likely "soil substrate" growing in deciduous forest.

Notes:

Spotted in Cumberland Gap NHP.

Nice fungus spotting! I wonder how many younger people today would not what shag carpets are?
