A complex butterfly with a lot of hidden secrets. Size: ca 3-3,5 cm wingspan. The series shows different specimen found in two different places, but during the same day.
High altitude mixed woodland (prim. Acasia bushes) and grassland. This was found on plants next to a gravel road.
The Bush Scarlet (Axiocerses amanga) is a butterfly of the Lycaenidae family. It is found in Africa, south of the Sahara.The wingspan is 24-28 mm for males and 25-30 mm for females. Adults are on wing year round in South Africa. Place for the spotting: Mlawula Nature Reserve, Swaziland. Forewing, downside: The upper part had small silver stains, and the lower part bright yellow. Forewing, upside: a warm orange/red colour that became black next to thorax. Hindwing, downside: A few silver stains towards the tail. Hindwing, upside: Same as forewing upside.
