House Finch

Carpodacus mexicanus

Description:

The males have a red chest with brown and white. Females and joungs are brown with white streaks.

Notes:

This youngster was caught on the hummingbird feeder, stealing the nectar that (so far) was for a family of ruby-throated hummingbirds that are nesting nearby. I have never seen this behavior until now and I'm astonished!
