Pied Butcherbird (Juvenile with adult)

Description:

The "pied butcherbird' is a medium-sized songbird native to Australia, and belongs to the passerine bird family Artamidae. It grows about 35 cm (14 in) long and has black and white plumage. The colour of juvenile birds, which are accompanied by their parents, is brown and white. As they mature their brown feathers are replaced by black feathers. It is common in woodlands and in urban environments.

Habitat:

Spotted along the river in Urunga on the NSW mid-north coast.

Notes:

These birds weren't frightened of me - they were waiting patiently for a handout. I only had some bread this particular day so gave them a very small portion, but normally I would feed them fruit of some sort, not that I encourage feeding them.
