Thanks for that link Elsa! I have been noticing the orangey color that does look redder at certain angles. I assumed it had something to do with non-breeding plumage.

That first photo is gorgeous and very interesting - I've never seen that golden colour on the throat of ruby-throated before so I had to google it! http://www.sibleyguides.com/2011/08/the-... Looks like it can be a male in non-breeding plumage?
