Eucalyptus Tortoise Beetle

Paropsis charybdis

Description:

A 12 mm long dome shaped beetle with brownish-grey pitted elytra. Dark brown patterns adorned both elytra and pronotum. The outer margins of the elytra and pronotum had a red blush.

Habitat:

Found near young eucalyptus trees

Notes:

These are said to be a pest i eucalyptus forests defoliating trees at enormous rates, especially in New Zealand ! http://www.flickr.com/photos/32977858@N0... Family: Chrysomelidae
