Black-headed Gull

Chroicocephalus ridibundus

Small gull from Laridae family. Here seen just entering its winter colors (pics 1,2 and 5), mainly white or whitish with few greyish markings. Some younger birds are there as well (Photos 3 & 4), recognizable by brown patterns on wings. In summer, they develop grey wing covers, and chocolate-brown head.

Very common in our area (pays de Gex; the area between Jura Mountain range and lake Leman), and seen in most of lakes in Alps and pre-Alpine region. This one seen in Annecy lake.
