Agraulis vanillae
There are several Gulf Fritillary caterpillars and eggs on my passionflower plants. I first spotted the female butterfly laying eggs then saw the caterpillars feeding. Very exciting.
The Gulf Fritillary or Passion Butterfly (Agraulis vanillae) is a bright orange butterfly of the family Nymphalidae and subfamily Heliconiinae. It was formerly classified in a separate family, the Heliconiidae or longwing butterflies, and like other longwings this species does have long, rather narrow wings in comparison with other butterflies. It is not closely related to the true fritillaries. It is the only member of genus Agraulis. Wikipedia

A beautiful caterpillar....
Thank you SukanyaDatta! I hope to have butterflies too! :) now I want to plant more passionflower plants.
Great! I had a passionflower vine for two decades...everyone warned me about caterpillars but all I ever saw were biting ants. I hope your caterpillars turn into butterflies and we get to see them. Thanks.
