River Crab

Description:

I am completely puzzle!!?? I came inside the house after gardening in the afternoon to find this crab at the front door inside the house waiting for me!! I live 900meter above sea level, the Peninsula of Nicoya is my view but it is far, I do have a River that is far also??!!

I also thought it was Allacanthos yawi, but I had doubts because I live in Central Costa Rica. If it was found at such high altitude and near a River I guess it is possible. (The River is 2 and a half kilometers from my home.)

Hema Shah, thank you so much for all the ideas of how it got to my home I specially like the one.. "it hitched a hike on a turtle".... : ) A friend suggested that a truck load of sand came by and drop the crab!!.... : )

is this near you? The new crabs were found on the banks of the Rio Vulcan 1,000 meters above sea level. Mr. Rolie and his associates were surveying the area for a potential hydropower project. About eighty percent of the nation’s electricity is generated by hydropower.

Maybe they made burrows with long tunnels and ended up at your home? or maybe the wind blew the crab babies when they were tiny ?

Land crab, perhaps? The correct category should be arthopods(like insects)
