Indian Bandicoot Rat

Bandicota indica

Description:

Four-legged, longish, furry body, naked tail, rounded ears. Considered a pest.

Habitat:

path along my morning walk route. This is a rather deserted area with multi-storied buildings near by but also some open space not used for decades and so, a bit of a dumping ground. (2nd photo shows habitat wit the rat). Usually these rodents do not venture out in sunlight much especially with people nearby. I was quite surprised to see it out in the open, like this.

Notes:

According to Wikipedia the tail length in Lesser Bandicoot Rat is less than body length...in my spotting I think it is about equal.
