Killdeer juvenile

Charadrius vociferus

Description:

I was walking by a grassy area between some railroad tracks and parking lot, when I saw some movement down in a drainage ditch from the corner of my eye. Four young killdeer were poking around in the grass of its bank and down in the damp bottom. Mom and Dad were keeping an eye on them from the flat grassy area above the ditch. One of them did the classic injured bird display to distract me from them.

Habitat:

Drainage ditch between railroad track and park parking lot.

Thank you. They were really cute little guys. I have see a lot of adults, but his was the first time I had ever seen the youngsters. I had a great time watching them.

These are cute little guys, and I would love to get close enough to take some pics. I've saved a few from the storm water drains, but I didn't have my camera on me. Nice spotting, Joan.
