Spotting

Description:

Fuzzy dark brown moth with stout body. Found clinging to a stem, at rest (daytime), mimicking a dead leaf. Its disguise was so convincing I almost didn't recognize it, even though it was within inches of my face! When it fluttered away and landed on the leafy soil, the camouflage was equally impressive. What an amazing little creature :)

Habitat:

Suburban yard, in a flowerbed by the house
