I added the other photos I had. They're not very good because he was constantly moving and hiding under leaves, but maybe it will help.

This is a Ground Beetle, Family Carabidae, maybe genus Pachimachus Have a look at all the species to see which looks most like what you saw. Do you have any other photos?
