Phoenicopterus ruber
Is a large species of flamingo closely related to the Greater Flamingo and Chilean Flamingo. It has also been known as the American Flamingo because their presence in the Galápagos.
Its preferred habitats are saline lagoons, mudflats, and shallow brackish coastal or inland lakes.
This caribbean flamingo was photographed at the Barranquilla zoo.

Fun fact! Flamingos can only eat with their head upside down. Flamingos filter-feed on algae and small aquatic invertebrates. Their beaks are specially adapted to separate mud and silt from the food they eat, and are uniquely used upside-down.
