Phalacrocorax auritus?
The birds were hanging out on the old posts of an old ferry dock.
In Juanita Bay Park at the north end of Lake Washington, a fresh water lake in the Pacific Northwest between the Olympic and Cascade mountain range, close to the Puget Sound (a salt water inlet in Washington State, USA).
Kate says: I'm not familiar with these birds, but Chris was pretty sure of what he was looking at. After looking at the photos on EOL and Wiki I think he's right, but if anyone has a different idea we'd love input. :-) Wish we'd been able to get a better pic but this was the best we could do at dusk with our little point-and-shoot.
