Purple Coral Pea (Hardenbergia)

Description:

Hardenbergia violacea syn. H. monophylla is a species of climbing flowering plant of the pea family Fabaceae. Also known as the false sarsaparilla, purple coral pea, happy wanderer, native lilac, vine lilac or lilac vine. A vigorous evergreen climbing plant, also sprawls along the ground taking advantage of anything it can climb up and over. Leaves are long, narrow, dark green, flowers are small, pea-shaped, exquisite purple shade with lime yellow centre. Flowers can also be violet to blueish shades, white or pink with variations of these.

Habitat:

It is a native to Australia with its range extending from Queensland to Tasmania. Grown in many garden environments now, but its natural habitat is varied from moist forest edges to dry eucalypt forest and woodlands.
