Ring-necked Duck

Aythya collaris

Description:

This is a smaller diving duck found in North America. The ring around the neck of the male is not very conspicuous but the vivid markings on the bill are an excellent field mark. The male's back, neck and head are dark. Sides and belly are light colored. The eye is yellow. The female is is predominately brown with a white eye ring and white patch under the throat.

Habitat:

Ponds and lakes.
