Description:

Cap, ca 2.5-inch diameter, red with fine cracks. Hard to evaluate KOH staining on cap. Immediately staining blue when cut. KOH (3%) reverses staining in flesh, stains yellow. Pore surface yellow; staining intense blue immediately when bruised. Stipe, tapering from apex to base; white at base, then red fading to yellow at apex; ca 0.5 inches at base. KOH stains stipe red. Spore print, olive-brown. Spores, smooth; ca. 13-15µ x 3µ.

Habitat:

Growing alone in an open field. No trees in immediate vicinity; no apparent association with wood.
