Epidesmia tricolor
about 3cm across the wide point on the wings, black or very dark brown moth with white features
Lomandra and grasses beneath red gums. Although it was photographed in daylight it may just have been disturbed by my passing
Thanks to Mark Ridgeway for the identity.
That looks good Mark. Nice job on the ID
I bought a book on moths myself, wrong one.
Sometimes my brain is also wonderful, but only sometimes ;-)...
My problem is always the shipping costs to Switzerland. For the 4 volumes it would be 12.5 Aussie Dollars, have to check the currency exchange first and check my bulk of wish lists and ask my wife to empty her bookshelf first...
Thanks for your infos about the books, I mostly need pictures, pictures and 1 name!
I didn't use them directly for this ID though Doc. It's interesting isn't it... having read through them for two days I saw Stephen's Agaristinae comment and thought 'No,,, Epidesmia' How does that happen... !? The human brain is a wonderful thing.
Essential for Victorians... very good for others in the southern half of Aust. Less useful for northerners (beyond Brisbane?) . They are exactly field guides with just names and pictures but intelligently grouped. So far they particularly cover the groups that express very Australian forms. There are another 3 coming out soon covering other groups. I might have to join the society. Very good value.
