The Wide Chelonistele

Chelonistele sp

Description:

large, multi flowered epiphytic orchid, growing low to the ground, one of the most impressive wild orchid I've ever spotted, possibly Chelonistele amplissima.

Habitat:

tropical heath forest, 1000m

Notes:

I clearly remember when I first spotted this orchid at the base of a moss covered tree, just before the Nepenthes camp in Maliau basin conservation. I'm always spotting orchids with such small flowers, so it was a nice treat to spot something as largely flowered as this.
