A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Dacelo novaeguineae
This was the moment a local adult Kookaburra "adopted" a rescued young (from another area). It is seen here feeding the youngster with a garden skink.
Common throughout Eastern Australia
A stocky bird about 45 cm in length, with a large head, brown eyes, and a large bill. They have a cream-coloured body and head with a dark brown stripe through each eye and more faintly over the top of the head. The wings and back are brown with blue spots on the shoulders.

Interesting...!!
time to eat!
@alicelongmartin - We "test" first with the young bird in a cage for protection. Sometimes they get ignored, sometimes attacked, and sometimes this happens!
I never knew birds would be surogate Mothers.Quite a picture to catch.
That's great. I love the little ones when they start to learn how to "laugh" and they're making that funny wheezy sound.
