Black Drongo

Dicrurus macrocercus

Description:

This is an all black, small (some 30 cm in length incl tail) but incredibly aggressive Asian predatory songbird - considered a subspecies of African Fork-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus adsimilis) until recently.

Habitat:

Here observed in urban environment of Cox's Bazar, and close to a two cows. Otherwise seen in great numbers in all visited rural areas in Teknaf peninsula; close to habitations and near agricultural fields.

Notes:

It is often associated with farming and livestock, and farmers appreciate Drongos for helping them in controlling crop and animal pests - here standing watch ona young cow after cleaning it some.
