Anhinga anhinga
This Anhinga was apparently just hanging out and posing (or perhaps keeping a sharp eye out for lunch). No matter how much I tried to coax, it just would not spread its wings for a really good picture!
Freshwater and coastal regions. Areas that provide vegetation for nesting, cover, and stalking are preferred. Mangroves grow near the spotting location.
The Anhinga is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. http://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/Regula... http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Anhin...
