Northern Cardinal (healing male)

Cardinalis cardinalis

Description:

black eye bands, orange beak, red belly & head wth red-gray wings. This one has been attacked by something. In one picture you can see a line on the back of his head where it looks like blood was drawn. I suspect it is a cat tooth or claw mark from some other animal. the Cardinal was alert, flying all over, feeding on the ground and the raised feeders. The blood was present but dry looking. You can see some skin on the back of his head and he is missing quite a few outer feathers from the back of his head, exposing the black under feathers.

Habitat:

He was in several trees in my front yard.

Notes:

A younger Northern Red Cardinal at the same feeder area earlier this year http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/713...

Saw this bird on my birdfeeder today as I was leaving. So he's still alive, but ragged looking still. It's only been 4 days.

The first picture of his back-neck looks almost like a cartoon bite mark out of his feathers. There is a water bowl/bird bath if he likes, he is able to dip in the water in a few days. We have tropical storms coming tomorrow and the next day, so I hope he is able to stay dry and warm so he can finish healing up.
