The ants were scurrying along taking this large grub-like thing with them. I am not sure this is an ant queen...looks more like a termite queen with its huge mis-shapen abdomen and almost no thorax or waist. But the ants were not really attacking it or tearing it apart...they moved very quickly as if escorting it...and soon vanished in the rain-wet grass. Makes me wonder. Maybe it is not food.
Suntaley khola is a remote village in West Bengal, India with the River Moorti flowing by it. There is only one narrow motorable road that ends by the river. All this activity was taking place in the garden of the resort.
Is it a termite queen? I did see shed termite wings nearby.

Thanks Heather, it does look like a termite queen. The ants must have raided deep into termite territory to get the queen! Tough Luck, termites.
Since ants like to eat termites and because the image looks just like a termite queen, my guess would be they are taking their prize to their hill or mound.
