Rüppell's korhaan

Eupodotis rueppellii

Description:

Another fascinating lifer for myself, a gift from this beautiful country - Rüppell's korhaan, a.k.a. Rüppell's bustard is a bird of arid areas, with sandy coloured body, long grey neck with black-and-white pattern, and a small white-and-grey head. It is a large bird in general, although small for bustards (family Otididae).

Habitat:

Difficult to say if it's endemic or near-endemic - this korhaan is native to Namib desert, but some literature say it can also be found somewhere in Angola (??). Here, observed in two distinct locations, few kilometres apart, in north-western part of the country, on rocky and almost barren terrain (apart for few acacia and mopane trees), on shores of a dry river-bed.
