Snowberry Clearwing

Hemaris diffinis

Description:

transparent wings, diurnal, two broods a season

Habitat:

temperate forest edge

Notes:

I found a large patch of Bee Balm (Monarda) in full bloom in Short Hills provincial park. I decided to stalk it for a while, hoping a hummingbird moth would come by for a visit, since I spotted them on these flowers in the park last year. Well, I only waited about 3 minutes before a snowberry clearwing came by and visited for about 5 minutes. They are difficult to photograph and get close to, so I know I didn't have a lot of time. I took a ton of photos and thankfully a few came out in focus. I've cropped a few here for a better look.
