Jagged Ambush Bug

Phymata americana

Description:

I found this fellow out alone, not near any flowers that I could see. It was in extremely close proximity to this yellowjacket, too! Their colors can vary--this one is the first bright yellow one I've seen.

Habitat:

Mixed forest, Ozark Highlands, 45°F/5°C. Found on a ridge and trail high above town.
