Description:

Medium size Woodpecker
Green-black back, tail, wings and head. Grey collar and chest, with dark red face, flanks and belly. Can be found feeding on insects

Habitat:

Open woodlands. Prefers Oak trees.

Notes:

Spotted it in Contra Costa Co at Los Vasqueros park.

Here is spotting in Santa Clara Co near the borders of Alameda and Stanislaus.

Though about the same size, the look bigger. Really awesome. They have been spreading. They were mostly found in Santa Clara Co and Stanislaus. They have been recently spotted now in Alameda Co and Contra Costa. They use to be in CCC but more or less disappeared. But they still are found on the eastern edges nearer Central Valley
