Flat slater

Porcellio scaber

Description:

I turned a log over in the back yard yesterday and found this little pile of eggs among zillions of slaters. Not sure if they are associated.

Habitat:

Outer urban back back yard.

Notes:

Two main species introduced into Australia. The other one is Armadillidium vulgare which is rounded and can roll into a ball as defense. This one just runs and hides.
The 'eggs' between these two are not slater eggs apparently.
