Buprestidae. (Acmaeodera macra a possibility?) but it doesn't exactly look like that either.

Habitat:

Spotted on a flower at the National Butterfly Center in Mission, Texas.

I would agree, the variation is a little different on this specimen compared to the other ones in the genus.

Thank you Ornithoptera80 for the suggestion. I have doubts about A. amabilis as BugGuide has its easterly extent of range in west Texas. Also it has red and mine doesn't. I'll keep looking.
