Northern Saw-Whet Owl

Aegolius acadicus

Description:

A northern saw-whet owl that was caught, banded and released as part of an owl banding program here in Victoria, BC!

Habitat:

Northern Saw-Whet Owls migrate through this area of BC every fall. Little is known about their long-term migration patterns, behaviours, or even diet and lifestyle here on the West Coast.

Notes:

The owls are caught with mist nets, banded, weighed and measured before being rereleased in these "owl hotels". This keeps them safe from predators and allows their eyes to readjust to the darkness! Check out more of my photography at facebook.com/alenasphotography :)
