Smilisca baudinii
A largish sized frog. The common Mexican tree frog, Smilisca baudinii, is a nocturnal species of tree frog whose native range extends from the Sonoran Desert and the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas[2] south to Costa Rica. Common names include Mexican tree frog, Baudin's tree frog and Van Vliet’s frog. They are usually found within lightly forested areas near permanent sources of water.
Hehehe, got side-tracked I'm afraid! Seem to have ended up in Africa! You are off the hook for a while longer...
thanks Ashley. Bayucca and Scott also thought it might be that. Glad you confirmed it. Now it's out of the Unknown Spottings!
Getting back to the frog… Love the way it is sleeping with its head on it's 'hands' and it's back leg up the wall.
bayucca did you see that Daniel has a plan to get you away from the computer and surgery!? I am going to visit Switzerland and we are going to kidnap you and your camera, and go to that gorgeous valley where she saw the Mountain Apollo butterfly, or somewhere just like it! You are safe at the moment though, as it won't be for some time yet!!
Woops this comment disappeared. Bayucca!!?
Thank guys, As I know even less than you, I might wait a bit longer and see if anyone else confirms your ID. Though the markings on the body do look very similar.
bayucca, took me a while to get the pronunciation of lepitettieverythingotherthanfrogserist!! I hope you don't introduce yourself as that! It's more than a mouthful...
Hi, hi, Baudini was also my first guess, I wanted to get a closer look in the literature, but did not find the time. And as a lepitettieverythingotherthanfrogserist I never know what is important and what not...
I was going to suggest the common Mexican tree frog, Smilisca baudinii http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?searc... and http://www.bio.davidson.edu/people/midor... but yours doesn't have the prominent eye to nostril stripes. I don't know enough to say if that is important. ;-)
