This big hoverfly looks and sounds like a wasp until you get close and see the eyes. It struggled to get out.

I suppose if evolution can create such a good visual resemblance there's no reason it wouldn't eventually match the sound too.

It also raised its black front legs so it looked like wasp antenna. The sound was more like a wasp than other big flies.

Very convincing appearance. It's interesting that you say it sounds similar.. an achievement with only two wings not four.
