Noisy Miner

Description:

A grey bird about 280mm with white breast and throat. It has a yellow-orange beak and feet and a distinct yellow patch behind each eye. The head is black and the rest grey. Wings have streaks of yellow and the tail has a broad white tip.

Habitat:

dry open eucalyptus forest with no under-storey vegetation. This species is said to have increased in numbers because of increased urbanisation and gardens with nectar-producing flowers. They are therefore found in residential areas as well.

Notes:

These are honey eaters. They are gregarious, very noisy, territorial and aggressive. They form "coalitions" to mob predators. I do like to hear their mad cackle !!
