Seems to me if it were a bird of prey or a carrion bird, this carcass wouldn't be there to be photographed, but would have been eaten.
Wings are too short to be a bird of prey. Looks like a field bird such as partridge, grouse, or even some sort of dove. I'm not familiar with UK birds.
What an intriguing critter. Is this the underside of it? If it were mine to name, I'd call it the Groucho Marx beetle.
One of my favorite birds and a very good shot of him.
I clicked your link to groundhog and the photo on the right looks a lot like the mammal in your photo. The groundhogs in Utah are quite different.
By the way I've a photo of a Marmot in Ogden Canyon, Utah. Here's a link to a page showing the Yellow Bellied Marmot.

Looks like a vetch to me.
Interesting looking. I like the photo
The mammal looks like a Marmot to me.
Tamara, take a drive to Aberedeen, WA and drive up Broadway St, away from the river. You'll see a very tall Monkey Puzzle tree in a yard on the left hand side of the road. There's also a Redwood tree a little further up the road.
I would really appreciate help in identifying this snake. I've looked on all the sites I know of.
