My first guess, would be probably (battered up southern flannel moth caterpillar).

Nice find Deny. I grow this too, in the United States. These flowers are sphinx moth pollinated.

Nice spotting arne.roysland. This is the lackey moth, just a fully worn out specimen. The colors don't show that well.
