Idaho's Winter Wonders

Idaho's Winter Wonders

This mission is to find different biological organisms that winter throughout the Rockland Valley area. Though there are many domesticated organisms in the area the hope is to stick towards the non-domesticated kind of organisms. This can be anything from spiders in your house to wintering deer populations. Plants are also great ones to use in this spotting, but be careful to know what plant it is if your are going to use it. This mission also includes any sign of biological organisms. However, in order to use scat and tracks you have to be able to identify what animal they came from before posting them. As those can be difficult to see clearly in picture form. Have fun and get out there and find some that we haven't found yet as a class. (Hint: Bird feeders are great places to find variety.)

Idaho's winter wonders in Rockland Valley. Of all the things that we do in class, this is one of my favorites. Real "live action" happening in our own backyards. This is meant to be fun and to give opportunity to get out and experience nature. Open up our eyes to all the diversity around us and how it affects everything we see. You wouldn't see many of these same things if your were in a large city. Take advantage of it.
