Tortoise Beetle

Ogdoecosta mexicana

Description:

About 1cm body length. Bright orange colouration with black legs and head; each elytron has 7 1/2 black spots. Pronotum usually features two small black spots. This species is out in numbers and seems to favour Ipomoea murucoides as a host plant.

Habitat:

Semi-arid region of central Mexico, at about 1800m above sea level.
